Marten Jansen, abstract artist

I was born on September 12 1964 in Naarden, The Netherlands. I grew up in Bussum, a suburb of Amsterdam, until in 1983 I moved to Amsterdam to study economics.

In 1990 I started to paint as a hobby and while in 1993 I moved back to Bussum, I began to paint seriously in 1997, first in a figurative style.

Then, in 1998, I began to make abstract paintings.

In 2004 I became active on the web. I created www.paintings.name (for computer), my main website and I joined www.art.net.

As a person I am reserved and low-key. I am an observer rather than a participant and a thinker and a poet, not a bohemian.

Many of my paintings are female portraits, partly because they allow me to delve into human psychology.

In 2003 I started to make social realism paintings, which portray people in distress and serve to paint a more complete picture of the human condition, besides the female portraits. In my paintings I take care to balance beauty with ugliness and utopism with harsh reality.

Since July 2009 making music has become one of my priorities. Please visit my music blog at http://music.paintings.name (on your PC) and download my music (MP3).
